The Range Setup

 

The Precision Point Armory outdoor range is an L-shaped private facility with berms providing safe backstops on the right and rear boundaries. The range includes:

  • Six paper target positions, adjustable for distance

  • Four AR500 steel silhouette targets

  • Texas Star rotating steel system

  • Quick Draw reactive target

  • Elite Swinger timed-movement target

  • This setup supports fundamental marksmanship, speed drills, defensive shooting techniques, and scenario-based training. The range is available exclusively for scheduled classes, one-on-one instruction, and member training sessions.

Range Rules

Your safety is our top priority.
All students and visitors must follow these rules at all times while on the range. Failure to follow any rule may result in removal from the property.

1. Firearm Safety Fundamentals

  • Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded.

  • Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.

  • Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction—downrange at all times.

  • Always be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

2. Range Conduct

  • Follow all instructor commands immediately and without argument.

  • No handling firearms when anyone is downrange.

  • Fire only at designated targets—no shooting at berm edges, wildlife, or range equipment.

  • Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times on the firing line.

  • Firearms must remain unloaded until instructed otherwise.

3. Ammunition & Firearms

  • Only use ammunition approved by the instructor.

  • Steel-core, armor-piercing, or tracer rounds are not permitted.

  • All firearms must be in proper working order and subject to inspection if requested.

  • Students bringing their own firearms must ensure they are legal in the state of Illinois.

4. Range Procedures

  • Remain within your assigned shooting lane unless directed by the instructor.

  • Wait for a clear, verbal command before going downrange.

  • Cease fire immediately when a “STOP” or “CEASE FIRE” command is given.

  • Maintain safe muzzle awareness when loading, unloading, holstering, or benching firearms.

5. Behavior & Safety Expectations

  • No drugs, alcohol, or impairment of any kind before or during training.

  • No horseplay, roughhousing, or unsafe behavior.

  • Respect others on the range—maintain awareness of spacing and equipment.

  • Children/minors must remain under direct supervision of someone with a valid FOID card.

6. Illinois Legal Requirements

  • Illinois residents bringing their own firearms must possess a valid FOID card.

  • Minors participating in training must be accompanied by a FOID-holding parent or guardian.

  • All firearms must be transported to/from the range according to Illinois law.

7. Property & Environmental Rules

  • Stay within designated range boundaries at all times.

  • Do not move, adjust, or modify targets or range equipment without permission.

  • Pick up spent brass if instructed; dispose of trash in designated containers.

  • Park only in approved areas.

8. Instructor Authority

The instructor has full authority over all shooting activities.
Any unsafe behavior, rule violation, or refusal to follow instructions may result in:

  • Immediate cease-fire

  • Being asked to leave

  • Termination of training session without refund

This ensures a safe environment for all students.

State-managed public outdoor facility with rifle/pistol booths, trap fields, and archery at affordable hourly rates. Great option for beginners and general practice sessions.

 

St. Louis Skeet & Trap Club – Pacific, MO

Dedicated shotgun sports facility offering skeet, trap, 5-stand, and sporting clays. Open to walk-ins with memberships also available.

 

Brittany Shooting Park – Bunker Hill, IL

Large outdoor complex known for trapshooting, skeet, 5-stand, and competitive action pistol matches (IDPA, 2-gun, cowboy action) along with rifle and handgun berms.
